Issues taken up with management - 2006

14 February 2006

Shri Praful Patel
Hon’ble Minister of Civil Aviation

Greetings for the New Year from the Air Traffic Controllers’ Guild.

We would like to draw your attention to the meeting between us on 21st September 2005 in the Conference Hall of the Ministry of Civil Aviation.

If the Hon’ble Minister may recall, the Guild had raised the issue of cadre restructuring prior to implementation of Recruitment and Promotion rules by AAI. ATC Guild can say safely that there was no objection from the Ministry of Civil Aviation as well as AAI in the meeting.

However, over three months have passed since then and we have not heard anything further despite assurances of a proper examination of all issues followed by due consultations.

On the contrary, we now learn that the draft of the Recruitment & Promotion rules is almost ready for the AAI Board’s consideration. We are disappointed by this concerted attempt to keep us in the dark, especially in the backdrop of what had been agreed in the presence of the Hon’ble Minister.

Just to give you an instance of how the entire outcome of the meeting is being brushed aside, the minutes of our discussions on 21st September have not been circulated yet. With all due respect sir, this is not a positive signal at a time when controllers are coming under severe stress due to enhanced workload, insufficient technological ambience and shortage of staff.

We urge you to personally intervene in the matter to at least ensure that issues raised by us are addressed with necessary satisfaction.

Best Wishes,

R K Singh
General Secretary
